Emmy Nominations: Modern Family, This Is Us and More Snubs and Surprises

After dramatically closing the gap with long-time Emmy nomination leader HBO last year, Netflix came up on top for the first time just five and a half years after officially entering the original scripted series space with the launch of House Of Cards. Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale" comes in second with 20 nominations.

But not all of the Seven Kingdoms' key players made the Emmys cut.

Some of TV's biggest stars, as well as headline-grabbing shows, failed to get nominations this year.

"Game of Thrones", which sat out the awards previous year because it missed the eligibility window, received 22 nominations, the most of any series.

Diana Rigg's turn as Olenna Tyrell in the series has seen her nominated for Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Its latest season premiered a full year ago, and it won't begin its eighth and final season until 2019. She wasn't nominated for an Emmy in 2017, either.

Season 5 of Fortnite Battle Royale has brought back these treasure hunts and for the first week, the map is in Risky Reels. Perhaps one of the biggest changes occurred in the Moisty Mire part of the map, which doesn't look so moist anymore.

The revival of "Roseanne, " canceled because of star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, drew only one major nomination, a supporting actress nod for Laurie Metcalf.

Besides the repeat nomination for Dowd, "The Handmaid's Tale" scored nods for Drama Series, Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Joseph Fiennes), and two additional nominations for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Alexis Bledel and Yvonne Strahovski).
