He replaces Hope Hicks, who had surprised many announcing her resignation in late February, one day after testifying before the House Intelligence Committee.

The White House appointed former Fox News and Fox Business Network Co-president Bill Shine as the new deputy chief of staff for communications Thursday.

The President said Shine is joining the White House staff as Assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications.

May said her plan still involves leaving the customs union and single market, "but supports shared prosperity and security" between Britain and the EU.

The real story here - and why this should be a very big deal - is the fact that Shine resigned previous year after being accused of covering up a series of sexual harassment scandals involving on-air talent at the network over the last several decades.

Former co-president of Fox News will be the deputy chief of staff for communications.

Shine was also implicated in racial discrimination lawsuits filed by Fox employees.

The president added that he has "no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda". Since then, he has lobbied for various energy industries, including the coal industries.

The pick of Shine is likely to invite its own controversy, given the cloud surrounding his exit from Fox News.

Some conservatives are hesitant of President Donald Trump hiring Shine with his tainted background. Shine is accused by several women, including some in lawsuits, of facilitating misconduct by former Fox CEO Roger Ailes and then deflecting their allegations or concerns.

"The now fired Mr. Shine has been alleged to have been involved in some way in at least three lawsuits involving sexual harassment of women while he and Ailes were at Fox News", Klayman said in a statement Tuesday. The primetime host set Shine on his path to the top at Fox; it was Hannity, too, who helped broker Shine's new White House job, according to people familiar with the discussions. "Competent, hard working and a believer in making America great again!" he wrote on Twitter.
