Hurricane season produces second depression

Forecasters reverse course, predict below-average 2018 hurricane season

New predictions for hurricanes, storms in the Caribbean this season

A tropical depression, or even Tropical Storm Beryl, could develop in the next few days between Bermuda and the United States, according to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami.

If that happens, the system would become the second named storm of the hurricane season, taking the name Beryl. However, forecasters say upper-level winds could make conditions unfavorable for sustaining the storm.

The depression is located between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles, southeast of the Caribbean Sea. It's expected to degenerate into a low pressure system before it reaches the Lesser Antilles. A tropical wave that's been closely watched since Monday has developed a center of circulation.

If it becomes a tropical storm, it will be named Beryl.

The most recent models suggest that the storm will be negatively impacted by an approaching frontal boundary on Sunday, making additional development limited after that interaction.
