The excessive heat warning continues today and tomorrow for heat indices up to 110° so please continue to stay hydrated and be safe if you have to spend anytime outside. Temperatures are expected to climb well into the 90s from the lower Great Lakes region to New England, according to NOAA, with record highs in a number of states-including New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The worst of the heat is likely to peak on Sunday afternoon. Additional heat advisories are possible for Sunday. The humidity will be extremely high as well, leading to risky conditions thanks to heat index values over the weekend that will feel like 100-105 at times. Heat will begin to drop off after that, but the moisture will increase, keeping the heat index high through the week, and making things feel much warmer as well as very uncomfortable.

Heat index values well into the 100s will become common on Saturday, as the hottest temperatures and highest humidity will finally arrive. Heat Indices on Sunday will exceed 105 degrees at times.

While Cool Sweeps typically don't take place on Sundays, the forecast of excessive heat necessitated the opening of the Carter Street R-Center, the Phyllis Wheatley Library and the hydrants at School #41 and Baden Park to provide relief to residents.
