YouTube Premium will be an ad-free service and it will combine YouTube Music with YouTube Originals allowing users to background-play and download millions of videos from YouTube. "Functionally the same" as the service today, it will includes features like personalized playlists based on a user's YouTube history.

YouTube Premium is the new name for YouTube Red, and Google is doing something nice for existing Red subscribers by not asking them to pay the new higher price.

YouTube Music will be offered in free and paid tiers, with the free version being similar to Spotify's free offering where users can listen to music for free but will have to put up with ads. It is also quite likely that YouTube Music will replace the Google Play Music service in the future. The company unveiled two new products, including YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, that will get you access to plenty of ad-free content, including YouTube originals.

Customers may reserve the YouTube Red price for YouTube Premium in countries where YouTube Red is available by joining YouTube Red (in other words, by subscribing to YouTube Red right now).

So where does this leave Google Play Music? The timing is weird, but this is indeed Google's new streaming music service that will be at the forefront of their music push.

"The days of jumping back and forth between multiple music apps and YouTube are over". Now the company is simplifying and consolidating that play by decoupling the music and film components with the launch of a new service.

Laurel or Yanny? What we heard from the experts
That's the question as a short audio clip has sparked a social media debate about whether the word is "yanny" or "laurel ". He adds that hearing is passive whereas listening is when people try to interpret what they have heard.

And what of Google Play Music? The service will have an ad-supported version. The service will be available as a desktop player and as an app. Spotify is great for recorded music, but nothing can quite match YouTube's range of live performances, remixes, and custom playlists. In theory, that gives YouTube a unique position to recruit people to level-up to paying music subscribers.
