IMD issues thunderstorm warning in northern and eastern India

IMD warns that winds at a speed of 50-70 kilometers per hour may gush in the region. All evening schools run by the Delhi government and a few private morning schools remained closed on Tuesday.

As a precaution, some schools in Delhi and NCR region have declared holiday. The Haryana government has also canceled the leaves of all municipal officials and fire and emergency services have been put on alert.

Thunderstorm, accompanied by gusty winds, are very likely at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Bihar, West Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

At the same time, the Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their journey after checking the weather conditions.

Last week, severe dust storm and thunderstorm killed at least 124 people and injured more than 300 others in five states.
