UK Peers Expected To Back Giving Parliament Final Says Over Brexit

The amendment would allow Parliament to determine the government's course of action if MPs rejected the deal or if the UK and EU were not able to reach one

UK Peers Expected To Back Giving Parliament Final Says Over Brexit

After campaigning to bring back control to Westminster in the Brexit campaign, International Trade Secretary Liam Fox has gone on the offensive against the upper house because they did not vote with the government over the controversial EU Withdrawal Bill.

He said: "If we were in a customs union with the European Union we would have to accept what the EU negotiated in terms of market access to the United Kingdom without the United Kingdom having a voice".

The British government faced pressure over Brexit at home and overseas Monday, including a defeat in Parliament over who gets the final say on an exit deal with the European Union.

Peer Conservative Viscount Hailsham told Lords the principle of parliamentary sovereignty was “fundamental to our liberties and must not be betrayed”

The peer, who as Douglas Hogg was an MP for many years, told the House of Lords the principle of parliamentary sovereignty was "fundamental to our liberties and must not be betrayed" when it came to Brexit.

The support of the 19 rebel Conservative MPs is aimed to attract cross-party support in the House of Commons, a plan that would give pro-EU supporters the chance to vote against a Brexit deal that would damage the interests of the people and the nation without triggering a "no deal" outcome.

Forcing the prime minister back to Brussels if parliamentarians do not like the final deal risks "delaying exit from the European Union indefinitely", he added.

Mets lose deGrom, fall to sizzling Braves
Mike Soroka was outstanding in New York City against the first place Mets, giving up only one run in six innings of work. It felt like one of those games, on the road, that the Atlanta Braves would blow late, and then lose in extra innings.

The government, which does not have a majority in the Lords, has already lost a number of votes on its main Brexit legislation.

"I don't think he does understand the wider unionist culture of Northern Ireland".

He declined to comment directly on whether the government would try to overturn the amendment which, if passed by the lower house, would allow parliament to send ministers back to the negotiating table in Brussels or halt the Brexit process. "Under no circumstances can the Prime Minister be given a blank cheque to crash the United Kingdom out of the European Union without a deal".

House painter discovers couple killed in Bucks County home
Clark told reporters that the victims were in their late 20s to early 30s, and that police had had no previous contact with them. Northampton Township Police Chief Michael Clark said it appeared the home, not the couple, had been targeted in the attack.

"That Enabling Bill transferred the democratic right from the parliament into the hands of one man, the chancellor", he said.

Leavers' angry tirades against the vote were countered by passionate Remainers, such as Keir Starmer, the shadow Brexit secretary, who called the vote "a hugely significant moment in the fight to ensure parliament has a proper role in the Brexit negotiations and that we avoid a no-deal situation".
