Google confirms some of its own services are now getting blocked in Russia over the Telegram ban Ingrid Lunden @ 7 hours

"Google hasn't complied with Roskomnadzor requests and, despite a court ruling, keeps allowing Telegram Messenger to use its IP addresses to operate in Russian Federation", the watchdog said on its official page on the VK.com social network.

Google confirmed to TechCrunch today (23 April) that some of its proprietary services are being adversely affected by the IP crackdown.

It comes after a court order issued a week ago that made Telegram illegal in Russia because the company refused to hand over decryption keys to Russian authorities. Some turn to VPNs to access that content anyway, but it turns out that Telegram hasn't needed to rely on that workaround to get used.

Russia's ban on Telegram has a knock-on effect on Google services.

Russia's communications regulator blocked some Alphabet Inc. internet addresses, blaming the USA owner of Google for helping Pavel Durov's Telegram Messenger LLP service evade government blocking.

Presumably, problems caused by the actions of Roskomnadzor, which has blocked part of the IP addresses.

Writing on Twitter, the watchdog said it has blocked a range of Google applications in the aftermath of the Telegram ban.

"We are aware of reports that some users in Russian Federation are unable to access some Google products, and are investigating those reports", said Google.

Building Bridges between India and China
In another rare occurrence, Prime Minister Modi will be in China again in June for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. New Delhi declined an invitation to participate in the inaugural Belt and Road Forum in Beijing in May 2017.

It said the firm has "not met the demands of Roscomnadzor" and "continues allowing the Telegram Messenger Limited Liability Partnership company to use its IP addresses for activity in the Russian territory".

On Sunday, the stakes were raised by Roskomnadzor by declaring it had included an unspecified variety of Google internet protocol address utilised by Telegram into this sign up of internet sites.

So far Telegram's cloud partners have held strong and have not taken the same route, although getting its own services blocked could see Google's resolve tested at a new level.

He thanked supporters in Russian Federation who had set up virtual private networks (VPNs) and proxies, adding they "will be needed as the country descends into an era of full-scale internet censorship".
