At least four persons died when a almost nude gunman opened fire at a Waffle House restaurant near Nashville, Tennessee, early Sunday, and police were issuing murder warrants as they hunted for the suspect.

Four people died after a gunman opened fire at a Waffle House in Antioch early Sunday, April 22, 2018, before a patron wrestled the gun away, according to Metro Nashville Police.

Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner called it a "very troubling" situation. Three of those died at the scene, and one wounded person died at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre.

Police added: "Murder warrants are now being drafted against Travis Reinking". They say his father got them back and returned them to his son.

Don Aaron, public affairs manager for the Nashville police department, relayed witness accounts of how the gunman was dressed.

Police say the gunman was naked and using an assault style weapon. He's still on the loose and there's a chance he is armed with two other weapons.

Shaw, who was grazed by a bullet near his elbow and suffered other minor injuries as a result of the scuffle, downplayed those praising him as a hero, saying that he acted to protect himself.

"I think it's safe to say that person of interest and suspect in this matter is synonymous", he said.

Shaw was taken to the hospital at about 4 a.m., where was thanked by another survivor of the shooting before being released at 7:30 a.m.
