The Syrian Army has declared that all anti-regime forces have left Eastern Ghouta, after a blistering two month offensive on the rebel enclave on the outskirts of the capital.
"All the terrorists have left (the city of) Duma, the last of their bastions in Eastern Ghouta", the official Syrian news agency SANA said, citing a spokesman for the army.
The power of Bashar al-Assad launched on February 18 an offensive to retake the remaining rebel areas in this region located at the gates of the capital Damascus.
The demonstrations broke out early Saturday following a wave of U.S., British and French military strikes to punish President Bashar Assad for suspected chemical attack against civilians.
"Following a number of concentrated and powerful military operations in the past week, units from our fearless armed forces and its allies managed to cleanse Eastern Ghouta in all its neighborhoods and (surrounding) villages, from the armed terrorist organizations after driving out all terrorists from the city of Douma, the final base for terrorists in Eastern Ghouta", said a statement released by the military late on Saturday.
