Surat police awaited the results of forensic tests to confirm sexual assault even as Dr Ganesh Govekar of the city civil hospital, where the post-mortem was conducted, shared chilling observations. However, the identity of the victim was not known yet and none of her family has claimed the body.

Body of minor girl was found from Pandesara locality in Surat on April 6 with more than 80 injury marks. According to the report, there were multiple injuries from being beaten with a stick or a blunt object. The cops are checking the list of missing reports to identify the girl.

However, the police said that they are still investigating the case and trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased. The girl is believed to be between nine and 11 years old and it appears she was strangled, said police. "The victim's picture has been sent to the state police control room for the identification process".
