NIA court acquits Aseemanand, four others in Mecca Masjid blast case

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Monday acquitted all five accused, including Swami Aseemanand, in the 2007 Makkah Masjid bomb blast case.

The case was later handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011.

- The theory of "Hindu terror" was a concocted one.

All accused in Mecca Masjid blast case have been acquitted by Namapally Court.

Sadhvi Pragya, Lt Colonel Shrikant Purohit were named the key conspirators in the Malegaon blast case. Nine people lost their lives in the blast and 58 others sustained injuries.

However, only five of them were arrested and faced trial in the case. The blast had claimed around 9 lives. Later, the matter was transferred to the CBI, but then this case went to the NIA.

The original NIA chargesheet had included ten people for conspiracy and in carrying out the attack with an IED device on May 18, 2007. Dange and Kalsangra are absconding. Out of these, five had been arrested. Reports suggest that another accused, identified as Sunil Joshi had already died. The incident, which occurred in the courtyard of the dargah, popular as Ajmer Sharif, took place during the holy month of Ramzan just before Iftar festivities were to begin.

An inmate was killed during a fight in July 2017 , another was stabbed to death in November , and a third was killed in February . Corrections officials did not immediately say what led to the incident and why it took hours to stop the series of altercations.
