Veteran Linebacker James Harrison Retires After 15 NFL Seasons

James Harrison, a two-time Super Bowl champion linebacker with the Pittsburgh Steelers during 15 National Football League seasons, announced his retirement on Monday in an Instagram post.

This one appears to be the official end.The 39-year-old pass rusher announced on Instagram on Monday morning he is calling it a career."I've missed way too much for way too long", Harrison wrote.

Harrison played almost his entire career with the Steelers, collecting 80.5 of his 84.5 career sacks while wearing black and gold, a franchise record.

But after barely featuring with the team last season, Harrison was released and subsequently signed with the New England Patriots to help them during their run to the Super Bowl.

Harrison, who turns 40 next month, retired for the first time in August 2014, only to return to the Pittsburgh Steelers less than a month later after the team's defense suffered a number of injuries.

During media availability at Super Bowl LII, Harrison said he was planning to return in 2018.

A year ago, the Steel City was rooting for their aging veteran to pound out one more season and hang up the cleats in the locker room he established himself in. But less than three weeks later, he returned to the Steelers. Even if the stats have him at the top, the fans will forever remember his move to the dark side (New England) over his 15 sack season or Defensive Player of the Year.
