"For too long and way too many times, the commission chair chair has failed to be steady and stable hand that steers ship in hard times", they said.

The three further faulted the manner in which decisions were being made at the commission including the recent move to send IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba on a three-month compulsory leave.

"Instead, under the leadership, the Commission boardroom has become a venue for peddling misinformation, grounds for brewing mistrust, and a space for scrambling for and chasing individual glory and credit", the commissioners said in a statement.

Vice-chairwoman consulate Nkatha is among those who resigned.

The commission was frequently at the centre of controversy during Kenya's extended election season in 2017, in which around 100 people were killed. "There is no plenary meeting, only regular management meeting", IEBC Communications Manager Andrew Limo told Capital FM News.

In a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, Orengo demanded the disbandment of the entire commission since it has failed accountability, efficiency and accuracy tests as stipulated in the constitution.

Justice Radido set May 7 as the hearing date for Chiloba's petition having directed all IEBC Commissioners to file affidavits ahead of the hearing. "It can not be that everybody else is on the wrong and you're the only one on the right", he said.

"We need a maximum of five commissioners".

"Given this severe deterioration of confidence in the commission chair, we find our position as commissioners under his leadership no longer tenable", she said.
