Illinois GOP Primary Winner: GOP 'Messed Up Big Time'

Illinois Holocaust denier wins Republican nomination for Congress

Self-proclaimed Holocaust denier wins Republican nomination for Congress

A 70-year-old former Nazi leader, anti-Semite, homophobic, transphobic, white supremacist who has also denied that the Holocaust ever existed is the GOP nominee for an IL congressional seat in the Third Congressional District representing parts of Chicago and nearby suburbs.

Jones in February told the Chicago Sun-Times that he's a former leader of the American Nazi Party. Jones. Jones' campaign website details his unapologetically racist and anti-Semitic views, including praising the Confederate flag as "a symbol of White pride and White resistance" and describing the Holocaust, in which an estimated 6 million Jews were killed by Nazis, as a "racket" and "the biggest, blackest, lie in history". The National Republican Congressional Committee has also said it will not endorse Jones in November's election (a decision likely made easier by Lipinski's narrow victory).

Still, a stunning portion of the GOP primary electorate opted to cast their ballot for Jones rather than nobody. "It is a disgrace that he has won the Republican nomination", RJC chairman Norman Coleman said in a statement.

He's always been a stain on the Illinois Republican Party, which has successfully blocked his previous congressional bids. No Republican has held the district's seat since 1975.

According to the NYT, Arthur Jones, 70, has unsuccessfully sought the nomination of the Illinois Republican Party five times before, and he only won this time because the GOP didn't run anyone against him.

Schneider said the party had urged voters "to skip over his name when they go to the polls" and, moving forward, planned on "vehemently opposing Jones with real campaign dollars".

An independent candidate, Mat Tomkowiak, withdrew from the race earlier.

But still, the campaign website of Arthur Jones has pages dedicated to the Holocaust which he calls "a greatly overblown non-event" and "an worldwide extortion racket".

His last worldwide appearance came in last November's 0-0 draw with Brazil at Wembley, after a four-year absence from the squad.

As noted, Jones did not have the endorsement of the Illinois Republican Party or of any official Republican organization in the Chicago area that the 3rd District covers.

Camerota closed the interview by pointing to Jones' past failures in running for public office.

"This stuff about being a Nazi, that's in the past", Mr. Jones said on Monday.

"It is a sad state, where we are".
