In Phulpur Lok Sabha seat, Samajwadi Party's Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel is leading by more than 22,000 votes bagging 167,000 votes as against BJP's Kaushlendra Singh Patel who is second with 144,160 votes after 15th round of counting.

In Gorakhpur, the urban assembly segment, which includes the Gorakhnath Mutt of which chief minister Yogi Adityanath is the head priest, recorded the lowest turnout of 37.76 per cent among all the five that make up the Lok Sabha constituency.

While the BJP had won Phulpur only in 2014, losing Gorakhpur was a rude shock to the BJP, which had held this prestigious constituency, which has the famous Gorakhdham Matth, since 1991.
