So high of a level, in fact, that Self called it the best Big 12 tournament game he's been a part of since that thrilling victory over Texas in the 2008 title game.

"When you play in this league", said West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, "and you play everybody twice ... we're not one of those leagues where they play the best team like once every three years". The senior guard started the game rough but was a catalyst as the team finished the game on a 25-7 run to take the conference title.

It hardly mattered. Despite trailing the Mountaineers (24-10) for more than half the game for the third time this season, the Jayhawks delivered when it mattered most, using two separate 10-0 runs to erase big WVU leads and pull them back from the brink of watching the game get away from them.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi projects the Jayhawks as one of the four No. 1 seeds in the tournament field.

Seated in front of his locker with the net draped around his neck, KU sophomore Malik Newman, who torched that very same net for 6-of-8 shooting from 3-point range in Saturday's victory, gushed about the KU freshman who fought toe-to-toe with West Virginia big man Sagaba Konate, outdoing him in overall production in five fewer minutes.

Both Wade and Brown average 16.5 points per game.

Kawhi Leonard could be available as early as Thursday against Pelicans
That streak is in danger as the Spurs sit just one game out of the eighth and final playoff berth in the West. He did not make his season debut until December 12 and he did not play in more than two consecutive games.

The Jayhawks trailed West Virginia by eight points early in the second half and climbed ahead.

A classic back-and-forth battle with numerous lead changes took place between the two teams for all 40 minutes, but in the end, it was Kansas who would take home the Big 12 crown.

De Sousa (3 defensive boards in the final 9:00), Newman (3), Vick (2) and Mykhailiuk (1), cleaned the glass in crunch time, as West Virginia failed to score another second-chance point.

The Mountaineers controlled most of the first half, picking and choosing when to employ their full-court press.

The second half got off to a strong start for the Jayhawks, who regained the lead just 20 seconds after the restart when Graham got into the lane for a floater. Kansas ranks 243rd in three-pointers allowed per game (23.7).

The final sequence of the night was a fitting capper for Evans who struggled against the tough West Virginia defense.

Former Chicago Bears tight end Chris Gedney dies at 47
He caught 28 passes for 307 yards and three touchdowns before spending the last three years of his career with the Cardinals. Gedney, who starred in three sports at Liverpool High School, played for four bowl-winning teams while at Syracuse.

The Big 12 has great - not good, but great - coaching, according to Huggins, and "really good players".

Senior guards Daxter Miles Jr. and Jevon Carter scored 22 and 17 points, respectively, as West Virginia held off Texas Tech.

The native of Cameron, W.Va., grew up dreaming of playing on college basketball's biggest stage.

Lagerald Vick kicked off the incredible shooting stretch with his second three of the contest and the KU offense was off and running.

De Sousa shot 5 for 5 in 13 first-half minutes with two tip-ins, two slam dunks and a layup. Then they fell behind by seven with under 10 minutes to play and answered with a 10-0 run. As the NCAA Tournament approaches and the season nears its apex, the Red Raiders have become awful at the free-throw line.

Graham, the Big 12 Player of the Year, was the star of the show in the championship game. The Jayhawks would storm back again and take a 17-12 lead with four straight points from Silvio De Sousa and a three-pointer from Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk. Vick rounded out the Jayhawks in double figures with 10 points, eight of which came in the second half. The WVU basketball team will await its tournament fate with Selection Sunday looming.
