Hicks, who has worked for Donald Trump in various capacities since 2014, appeared before the House Intelligence Committee investigating Russian election-meddling on February 28 and was grilled by lawmakers for almost seven hours. But Trump also apparently told aides "his experience in business gave him an edge in deciding what to do on tariffs" and he knew the issue could better than some of his advisors.
Hicks's communications have come under scrutiny by both the House Intelligence Russia investigation and the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller, who reportedly interviewed Hicks in December.
