In what will likely be her last Olympic downhill race, USA alpine skier Lindsey Vonn won the bronze medal in her best event.

Mikaela Shiffrin said she was relieved that the decision to reschedule the combined event to Thursday from Friday had effectively ruled her out of competing in the downhill at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Sofia Goggia is not known for her elegant style.

Over the next half hour, no skier was able to match the trio of Goggia, Vonn and Weirather, as skier after skier inevitably fell behind in the crucial intermediate split.

Veith had looked set to become the first woman to defend an Olympic super-G title until Ledeka's sensational run, clocked at one minute 21.11 seconds.

Sergey Ridzik, representing the Olympic Athlete from Russian Federation, ended up with the bronze medal, despite colliding with Canada's Kevin Drury. The record was held by Austria's Michaela Dorfmeister, who was just shy of her 33rd birthday when she won the downhill and the super-G at the 2006 Turin Olympics.

Dua Lipa, Stormzy take top honors at BRIT awards
Dua Lipa , who has five nominations, and Ed Sheeran , who's up for four awards, were among those who displayed roses. She pinned a rose to a member of rock group Royal Blood on the red carpet.

"I wanted to win so much for him", Vonn, referring to her late grandfather, Don Kildow, said after the race.

"I skied really well, but I think Sofia is untouchable today".

Speaking after her race, Vonn, who was favored to win the event, expressed how grateful she was to have her father and family get to see her compete in PyeongChang.

Norway's Ragnhild Mowinckel must also be considered a strong contender after showing her versatility with silvers in both the giant slalom and downhill, while Lindsey Vonn could challenge if she can muster up a decent enough time in the slalom.

"I am so thankful to be on the podium in what's most likely my last Olympic downhill race", Vonn said.

The abuse ratcheted up on Saturday after Vonn tied sixth in the women's Super-G.

Shiffrin will skip Wednesday's downhill after the Alpine combined was moved to Thursday.

"I skied a great race today", she said. "I really want to keep racing forever, but I can't". "That they're going to switch the time for some others", the 22-year-old told reporters immediately after her victory.
