Oxfam body to look into misconduct charges

The head of Oxfam International says claims that staff members sexually exploited people in crisis zones are "a stain" that shames the charity.

"From the bottom of my heart, I am asking for forgiveness", Byanyima said, adding she wants all victims of abuse to come forward.

Haiti's president told Reuters on Friday that sexual misconduct by Oxfam staff was only the tip of an "iceberg" and called for investigations into Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) and other aid organisations that came to the country after a devastating natural disaster in 2010.

The Times newspaper reported last week that some Oxfam staff had paid for sex with prostitutes in Haiti after the country's 2010 quake.

After an investigation, Oxfam fired four people and let another three resign, however, the British government still criticized the organization for a lack of transparency.

Keselowski then slid back up the track but McMurray quickly closed the gap, giving Keselowski no where to go. Team Penske ended the opening Duel 150 with an impressive 1-2 finish for the second time this week.

In comments to reporters at the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, who tracked him down in an unidentified town on the Belgian coast, Van Hauwermeiren said there were "lots of lies and exaggerations" in media reports.

My message to women who have suffered: I'm fighting this abuse.

A young boy in Haiti described how a group of people in the streets decided to make money out of a girl sleeping rough and they took her to a man who worked for an NGO who gave her a dollar and raped her.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu has made a decision to step down from his post as ambassador for Oxfam in wake of these allegations.

Britain's development minister, Penny Mordaunt, said on Wednesday that Britain would stop funding overseas aid agencies if they failed to learn from Oxfam's sex abuse scandal.

Earlier, the charity unveiled an action plan to tackle sexual harassment and abuse and agreed not to bid for any more state fund until reforms were in place. It comes after the Commission examined documents sent today by Oxfam regarding allegations of misconduct by staff involved in its humanitarian response in Haiti.

"The hardest thing is that my family has rejected me", he said. The Commission has concerns that Oxfam may not have fully and frankly disclosed material details about the allegations at the time in 2011, its handling of the incidents since, and the impact that these have both had on public trust and confidence.

"The intensity and the ferocity of the attack makes you wonder, what did we do?" he said.

Belgium's Justice Ministry said on Thursday it had received no such request and prosecutors said they were not aware of any investigation into Van Hauwermeiren.

Oxfam has come under fire for failing to inform other aid organisations of the allegations against its staff including Mr van Hauwermeiren, whose behaviour working for Oxfam in Chad had already led to complaints.
