Snapchat is getting criticism that the new interface is hard to navigate.

Yet the redesign, which was partially geared towards making Snapchat more accessible and attractive to new users, has led to complaints it has become "more difficult" to navigate.

Nic Rumsey, who set up the petition, wrote that some are using Virtual Private Network (VPN) apps - which use servers overseas to mask the location of a device - in order to access the older version of the platform: "That's how annoying this update has become", he said.

But Snapchat users are saying the new layout is hard to use.

The redesign is Snapchat's attempt to make the app "more personal", creating a clear divide between your social interaction with your friends, and the content you consume from brands, celebrities and media outlets.

Snapchat founder and chief executive Evan Spiegel said during Snapchat's recent financial results that the firm understood the design change may take time to be accepted. Are you a fan or would you rather Snapchat revert?

Supermodel Chrissy Teigen added her voice to the protests, tweeting, "How many people have to hate an update for it to be reconsidered?"

In the meanwhile, many users are taking matters into their own hands by searching for VPN apps or other steps to go back to the old Snapchat.

But in a tweet, Snap advised against that.

Rohan Midha, managing director of influencer marketing agency PMYB, told the BBC that Snapchat had made a mistake in removing celebrities and influencers from the "friends" section. The detailed stats comprise demographic information such as location, age and contextual details based on a comparison made of their followers with other people on Snapchat.
