Tavares said all models from each of PSA's five brands will offer an array of power systems including at least one electric vehicle.

European automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen plans to offer electric and hybrid electric powertrain options for all of its vehicles by 2025, according to CEO Carlos Tavares.

The company blames its departure from the U.S. market - in addition to Japanese competition - on shifting customer tastes, so it makes sense that its re-entry bid comes with a focus on future-proofing.

By 2023, PSA wants to have electrified 86 percent of its core models. Tavares and a company spokesman clarified that electrification will be an option on all the automaker's vehicles by that time.

Last year, Tavares acquired GM's European Opel operation after GM chose to divest the money-losing operation. Tackling the USA market will be taken at a slow pace, as the company plans to enter with a ride service first, before it begins to sell cars to customers.

Tavares said that by 2030, 80% of Peugeot's vehicles would offer an auto pilot function under certain limited condition, as well as 10% would have autonomous driving capabilities.

Tavares on Wednesday outlined a three-step process for re-establishing Peugeot in the US market, the world's second largest, and compete on GM's home turf.
