US says air strike kills two militants in Somalia

Two militants were killed in Somalia as a result of a US airstrike targeting an al Qaeda-linked group and al-Shabab, according to the USA military's Africa Command.

Unidentified airstrike targeted suspected Al-Shabaab militant on a minibus near Bariiri location about 45 kilometers south of the capital Mogadishu on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that five Kenyan policemen were killed following an attack in the northeast of Mandera County near Somalia border. It has deployed bomb attacks against government, military and civilian targets.

It has since emerged that among those killed were Shire Mohamed Dimbil, Mohamed Harun, Mahat Yare and Dahir Hassan, all who were leaders at the camp.

On October 14, a double truck bombing killed 512 people in Mogadishu, prompting thousands of nationals to take to the streets to protest against the terrorist group Al Shabab, created in 2006.

The latest United States statement says they assessed the strike and no civilians were killed.
