Report: Seahawks Likely to Hire Coach Brian Schottenheimer as New Offensive Coordinator

Fantasy Football Breaking News

Schottenheimer, the son of longtime National Football League coach Marty Schottenheimer, has spent more than 20 years in the college and National Football League coaching ranks.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Seahawks are expected to hire Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator. In fact, Seahawks general manager John Scheider was in the front office with the Chiefs and Redskins while the elder Schottenheimer was at the helm with the organizations.

Jets fans know Schottenheimer well from his days as the team's offensive coordinator, though he wasn't exactly a hit in East Rutherford.

Schottenheimer worked with three starting quarterbacks in six years with the Jets. He served that role for the Jets from 2006 to 2011 and for the Rams from 2012 to 2014.

Now he's in charge of another offense, this time looking to correct a Seattle unit that's seen it's fair share of turnover since the season ended.

The Seahawks relieved former offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell of his duties on Wednesday, also parting ways with offensive line coach Tom Cable.

The Labor Department said its Consumer Price Index excluding the volatile food and energy components rose 0.3 percent last month. The next tests for companies will arrive in coming weeks, as they report their results for the last three months of 2017.

Particularly problematic with Seattle's offense has been the deterioration of the running game, which had been coordinated by Cable. He will have the benefit with working with Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson, who put together an MVP-caliber season finishing first with 34 touchdown passes, ninth with 3,983 passing yards, and 10th with a 95.4 quarterback rating. The Seahawks ranked no worse than fourth in rushing from 2012 to 2015 but have been 25th and 23rd the past two seasons.

#Seahawks coach Pete Carroll called Brian Schottenheimer and offered him the vacant OC job. Jeremy Bates was sacked after one season in that role, leading to Bevell's hiring in 2011.
