Mauricio Pochettino backed Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane to break the record amount of goals scored in a Premier League season following his brace during this evening's 4-0 win over Everton.

Kane bagged his 97th and 98th top-flight goals for Spurs against a worryingly off-colour Everton to surpass Teddy Sheringham as the north London club's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League.

In this photo taken by the EPA, Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min (L) celebrates after scoring a goal against Everton during the English Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at Wembley Stadium in London on January 13, 2018. Kane tested Pickford again, but his swivel and shot was comfortably saved.

However, it did not take long for Tottenham to change that statistic and, on 47 minutes, Kane tapped home after smart work by Son on the left. The South Korea forward turned Jonjoe Kenny easily midway inside the Everton half and then outpaced the full-back as he raced forward to drill across goal and give Kane a simple goal.

South Korean attacker Son Heung-min has bagged one goal and one assist in his latest performance for Tottenham Hotspur.

"I think a lot of our players were exhausted", Conte added before downplaying the extent of Cahill's injury by saying "I do not think it was serious".

But he has seen positives in the 26-year-old that could mean he turns out to be a good signing for Everton.

The team continues to struggle in attack, with the addition of Turkey striker Cenk Tosun - handed his debut following his arrival from Besiktas last week - failing to have an effect.

Salah named Liverpool Player of the Month for 4th time
Salah has been in excellent form this season and has scored 23 goals this season in 29 appearances. Salah scoring against Everton (top), to celebrating a goal for Liverpool (bottom).

He did have a rare off-day against West Ham in Spurs' last Premier League outing though, with the Hammers digging deep to get a 1-1 draw.

Wayne Rooney thought he had opened the scoring for the Toffees only for his header to be correctly disallowed for offside.

"That said Everton have only won one of their last 43 away league games against the "big six" and I can not see them getting a result in the capital".

Shortly after the hour Tosun was replaced by Dominic Calvert-Lewin but, despite his part in such a convincing defeat, he had given cause for optimism.
