"If Governor Rankin signs this measure into law, it will rip away the right of loving same-sex couples in Bermuda to marry".
According to Grant Spurling, a lawyer who represented the couple in the marriage equality case, "the [Bermuda Supreme] Court is bound by legislation" under Bermuda's legal system, unlike in the United States where courts can overturn legislation or policies that violate the Constitution. But it appears unlikely that the governor will block the bill.
Under the proposed new bill, same-sex couples won't be able to marry, but will instead enter into a "domestic partnership".
On Friday, the House of Assembly passed a legislation that replaces same-sex marriage with domestic partnerships.

Same-sex couples were able to legally marry in California again in June 2013 after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled Prop 8's proponents did not have legal standing to appeal previous rulings against them.
