At a meeting held by the York Council's Gambling, Licensing and Regulatory Committee on Tuesday, the committee deemed Uber to not be a fit and proper operator.
Uber's 12 month licence is set to expire on New Year's Eve, and Uber says it will be reviewing the decision once it receives formal notification from the council.
Council members in York have voted not to renew Uber's operating licence, condemning the ride-hailing company to its third United Kingdom city ban in as many months.
"Applying the legislation, the committee has chose to refuse the application having concerns about a data breach now under investigation and the number of complaints received".
