Google Maps will soon give you real-time notifications in transit mode

Google's new features have surfaced shortly after the company added a two-wheeler mode. You can see estimated travel, commute time, or walk duration. And these updates may appear on your Android screen, along with the Google Maps app. Basically, one does not have to go to Maps anymore to get their update. Now, Google is looking to launch a new feature which will be providing users live guidance and interactive real-time notifications during their journey. It's the same kind of fine detail that apps like Citymapper have had for a while.

A flow of cars and coaches full of visitors have been streaming into Valley View Road in Dargan, New South Wales - 30km away from the actual desired tourist destination of Katoomba - after the online map wrongly placed the destination on the small street.

The rest of the week is likely to stay below the freezing mark as well with a high of -4 C on Tuesday and -6 C on Wednesday. Toronto will see a high of -2 C today with a wind chill making it feel more like -11.

When you search for directions on Maps, you'll soon be able to tap a Start button towards the bottom of the screen, reports TechCrunch. However, unlike previous iterations, it will then give you live updates about your particular journey, be it by bus or train, similar to how the app gives directions for driving, walking, or biking. This will become more useful if you're riding a train or bus.

These notifications will be shown even if your phone is locked. They are interactive so you can easilly scroll through the alerts.

Google Maps will give detailed transit details with the process generally involving keeping track of progress along the route.

It's not certain when Google will roll out these changes to the Maps app for iOS and Android apps. The feature also includes updates about schedules, delays among other things for trips on metros and public buses in the city.
