The NHL has agreed to consider a Seattle expansion proposal, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced Thursday.

The NHL has approved Seattle's request to submit an expansion application and will permit the city to begin a season-ticket drive, according to Emily Kaplan of ESPN.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says the franchise fee for the 32nd club has been set at $650 million USA, up significantly from the $500 million United States the Vegas Golden Knights paid to join the league this season.

Seattle could become an option for 2020-21, though there are no guarantees the league expands there, Bettman said at the board of governors meeting.
