Because this issue is so very important to millions of Americans, especially those who live in and visit states with harsh gun control laws like California, New Jersey, and NY, we look forward to working with our friends in the Senate to improve and pass the bill so that the right to bear arms will no longer stop at state borders or city lines.

Additionally, the bill specifies that a qualified individual who lawfully carries or possesses a concealed handgun in another state: (1) is not subject to the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm in a school zone, and (2) may carry or possess the concealed handgun in federally owned lands that are open to the public.

"This fundamental right does not stop at a state's borders and law-abiding citizens should be able to exercise this right when crossing state lines", Hudson argued.

The lower chamber approved the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act in a 231-198 vote. If the Senate passes the bill, it will then head to the President's desk for signing.

"Even the most careful and knowledgeable concealed carry permit holders find it hard to navigate the current maze of state and local concealed carry laws", Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), author of the bill, said.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would allow any individual with a concealed carry permit to carry their firearm in any other state that allows concealed carry. Leonard Lance (R-7) and Chris Smith (R-4)- voted no on the legislation, the first gun-related bill to be put up for a House vote since the deadly October mass shooting in Las Vegas. Six Democrats voted yes, while 14 Republicans voted no.
