One of the counsel representing the petitioners had earlier said that final hearing in the main Aadhaar matter, which is pending before the apex court, was necessary as the government "cannot compel" citizens to link their Aadhaar with either bank accounts or cell phone numbers. "Therefore, it is clear that the video is outdated because it does not reflect the latest legal position as on today (December 7, 2017)", the statement said. According to the notification given on May 11, 2017, these services are mandatory to link with Aadhaar before their deadline. The Centre told the three-judge bench that it will extend the deadline for those who did not apply for the Aadhaar card yet and do not possess any id proof. Interim orders may be passed next week. They had also objected to the CBSE's alleged move to make Aadhaar card mandatory for students appearing for examinations, a contention denied by the Centre.

Also there is no change in the deadlines set for verifying bank accounts and PAN cards.
