Man arrested in 2010 murder of former National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright

The years-long mystery of who killed former National Basketball Association player Lorenzen Wright may be a step closer to being solved.

The Memphis Police Department and the Shelby County District Attorney's Office held a news conference Tuesday afternoon on Turner's arrest.

Billy Turner, 46, was indicted Tuesday on a charge of first-degree murder, according to the Shelby County District Attorney General.

The case received a boost on November 9 of this year when police in Mississippi found what they suspect to be the murder weapon in a lake about 75 miles southeast of Memphis in Walnut, Mississippi. That discovery led police to publicize once again the $21,000 reward for information on Wright's murder. He was visiting Memphis from his home in the Atlanta area in the summer of 2010 when he disappeared.

Wright suffered personal and financial difficulties after his playing career ended in 2009.

Wright, a 6-foot-11 Memphis native, University of Memphis standout and 13-year professional player, was last heard from on July 19, 2010, during a 911 call to a dispatcher in Germantown, Tenn., shortly after midnight. His ex-wife, Sherra Wright, told police he left her house in the suburb of Collierville after she heard him say on the phone that he was going to "flip something for $110,000". After three seasons in L.A., Wright bounced around from the Hawks to the Grizzlies and then finished with stops in Sacramento and Cleveland.
