Mary Norwood has demanded a recount in the Atlanta mayoral runoff election, but Keisha Lance Bottoms - leading with just 759 votes - has declared victory.

In 2009, "current Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed defeated Norwood by a similarly narrow margin", Ezra Morris of member station GPB reports.

A proud HBCU graduate, 47-year-old Bottoms was met with cheers from her supporters as she took to the podium at her celebration rally to share a few worlds amid news of her victory. Watch that video in the Facebook post below. "This has been a very, very, very long campaign, but as we look ahead toward the future, I look forward to engaging with each of you, making sure that our city continues to move forward", she shared with the NY Times. After losing that election, old recordings surfaced of Norwood speaking negatively about black voters.

Manchester United confirm deal for French youth Aliou Traore
United will be hoping to further unlock that potential and help Traore to tread a similar path to an illustrious countryman. I think it is a huge boost to the United youth ranks to have signed Traore by pipping Juventus as well as City.

Georgia utilizes a majority rule with a runoff voting system, which means that if no candidate secures more than 50% of the vote in the general election, a final race between the top two candidates decides the victor.

A half-century after white flight led to sprawl that fueled legendary traffic jams, Atlanta is booming economically and growing at a breakneck pace, with townhouses and apartments going up in vacant lots all over town. The provisional ballots will reportedly be counted and added to the final vote total on Thursday. Bernie Sanders of Vermont - had kind words to say about her after the general election.

In a last-minute boost to Norwood - and one with significant cachet - former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin endorsed the independent candidate over Bottoms.

Norwood also faced questions about her party loyalty. But Georgia Democrats, who supported Bottoms, accused Norwood of being a closet conservative.

A win for Bottoms would continue a run for African-American mayors that began with Maynard Jackson in the mid-1970s.

One campaign ad suggested Norwood is a Republican and asked whether the next mayor of Atlanta should "be from the party of Trump?"
