John Travolta-starrer "Gotti" has been dropped by Lionsgate ten days prior to its domestic release. Now that the film will no longer be released under the Lionsgate Premiere banner, the producers will begin to meet with new distributors.
Entertainment company Lionsgate parted ways with the production about the American gangster. While it's a bit unclear why this move was made so late in the game, it's at least now known what the goal was.

The fire, which is being called the Rye Fire, was initially reported to be around five acres but rapidly grew to 200 acres. HBO and CBS , which produce the two shows respectively, have also issued a statement regarding the halting of production.
The Tracking Board first reported the film's removal from schedule and resale.
One remaining unanswered question here - as mentioned above - is why Emmett/Furla/Oasis chose to buy back Gotti so close to its release date.

The producers wanted a wider release for the film so executed the buy back clause when an outside investor offered to release the film in May 2018. If it was a recent deal, producers may have had no choice but to do things at the last minute.
Gotti, starring Travolta in the titular role, was set to debut on 15 December (17), but was suddenly pulled from the film studio's schedule on Tuesday (05Dec17).
