Disney 'Closing In' On Deal to Buy 21st Century Fox

Broker Liberum told the Evening Standard that Disney/Fox talks throw a "curveball into the [Sky] deal", but added: "We still see a successful conclusion of the bid as most likely". If and when all is said and done, Fox would only keep their news and business news divisions, broadcast network, and Fox Sports.

As early as next week, Disney may announce the acquisition of key assets of the Rupert Murdoch-controlled Twenty-First Century Fox. Details on the deal will continue to come in, however, one thing is clear: Fox seems intent on minimizing its footprint in competing for rights fees.

The news has us salivating at the possibilities of an X-men/Avengers crossover and having mutants in the Marvel tv shows would be pretty damn cool. According to people briefed on the talks, James Murdoch has been suggested as a potential successor to Iger, the FT said. It's possible Disney simply had more money on the table. The Fantastic Four could finally get done the right way; Captain America could hang out with Professor X. Iron Man could trade insults with Wolverine (if Hugh Jackman comes out of retirement). But there is speculation that Disney would use Fox to distribute R-rated material.
