BJP could lose majority in Gujarat, says ABP-CSDS survey

Gujarat will see a close fight between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in the upcoming Assembly polls, as a recent opinion survey has predicted that each party will get 43 per cent votes.

Significantly, the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has dipped by 18 points from 82% in August to 64% in November.

Gujarat is slated to go to polls in two phases - on December 9 and 14.

In an attempt to take the sting out of BJP's victory in the recently-held civic elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party on Tuesday said that the BJP won only in those constituencies where electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has been drafted as the key campaigner in Gujarat and went on a almost 90-day whirlwind tour of the state, described it as a "historic win".

The dip in the BJP's lead can be partly attributed to anger among traders.
