Apple may launch an affordable 9.7-inch iPad in 2018

Apple is reportedly planning to release a new cheap 9.7-inch iPad in 2018 for around $259, according to a DigiTimes report.

Apple, back in March, launched the 9.7-inch iPad priced at $329 (Approximately Rs 21,200), which now is the cheapest full-sized iPad available in the market.

In 2018 Apple is apparently going to go even lower - DigiTimes is reporting that the 9.7-inch tablet will get a price cut to around US$259, The current model starts at US$329, so that's a drop of more than 20 percent. Apple has been aggressively pushing its iPad range with cheaper prices on the regular variant and major yearly updates for the iPad Pro. This low-cost iPad will retain the iPad 2017's 9.7-inch form factor but will use relatively "less-able' components, i.e. this budget iPad won't be as powerful as the cheapest iPad on sale today". If true, this will be the most affordable full-size iPad from Apple. Apple's iPad lineup has been considered to be a better tablet platform than that of Google's Android and Microsoft's Windows.

The sources noted that Apple is likely to outsource production of a new iPad to power Taiwan's Compal Electronics, and printed circuit Board of the device will produce Compeq and Unitech Printed Circuit Board. KGI Securities analysts Ming-Chi Kuo said a couple of months ago that the iPad Pro models next year will feature a TrueDepth camera and Face ID, as seen in the latest iPhone X.

Despite the great news for Apple fanboys, this report is to be taken with a pinch of salt as there is now no confirmation from Apple or its supplier, and is based on a speculative leak that might have been prompted by cheaper internals for the next iPad.
