Soon WhatsApp Group Admin Can Stop Other Members From Posting

WhatsApp is testing 'Restricted Groups' feature that may allow admins to gag other users

When this is done, all the other participants (except admins) would not be able to send in any group text messages, images, videos, GIFs, documents, voice messages etc. It is known for its streamlined group chat implementation.

Reports suggest that, the new feature will allow admins of a particular group to activate the "Restricted Groups" setting and once activated other members will only be able to read admin's message. They will be given a new feature named "Message Admin", so that they share it in the group with the consent of group admin. The administrator will then approve the message before forwarding it to the group. Sometimes it is really annoying when some group members send messages with no reason in group.

While it could prove useful - if you want some important details to remain on-screen instead of being pushed out of sight by newer messages, for instance - it is also likely to be abused by admins, who could easily use it to annoy other group members.

The news report from WABeta says that the Restricted Groups feature is already part of WhatsApp version 2.17.430 that has been submitted to Google Play store for approval. Once a user is restricted, he or she can send the message to the admin via a new "Message Admin" button.

However, WhatsApp could decide to make the setting more flexible before it officially introducing the feature out to users.

"A group can be restricted once every 72 hours but thanks to the 2.17.430 beta, we discovered that WhatsApp will be finally able to change this value from the server", the website said.
