Finally, it's over: Ezekiel Elliott drops legal fight, will serve full suspension

Ezekiel Elliott finally gives up the fight

Cowboys' Ezekiel Elliott withdrawing appeal, will serve suspension

The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals blocked the NFL Players Association's request for an injunction to keep Elliott eligible to play while his legal battle with the NFL played out last week. The hearing was a last-ditch effort to fend off the full six-game suspension.

Dallas Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott is now in the second week after his six-game suspension was reinstated.

Elliott, who missed last Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, will miss upcoming games against the Eagles, Chargers, Redskins, Giants and Raiders before rejoining team activities and practices on December 18.

Elliott's withdrawal of his appeal ends a sage that began July 2016, when his then-girlfriend Tiffany Thompson accused the player of five instances of domestic violence during a six-day period in Columbus, Ohio (Elliott attended college at Ohio State University).

Sale pitched more innings and games and struck out more batters while Kluber bested Sale in ERA, WHIP and most other rate stats. The Boston ace's ERA in August and September was 4.09, tied for 54th among 97 pitchers with at least 50 innings.

"Mr. Elliott's desire for closure in this matter is in his best interest, as well as the best interests of his teammates, family and friends", lawyers Rocky Arceneaux and Frank Salzano said in a statement to the NFL Network.

In a statement Wednesday, Elliott's side said withdrawing the appeal is in "no way an admission to any wrongdoing".

"This decision arises from a practical assessment of the current legal landscape", the statement continues.

"Mr. Elliott will maximize this time away from the game and come back even stronger both on and off the field". Initially, Elliott won an injunction allowing him to keep playing through the beginning of the Cowboys' season based on National Football League arbitrator Harold Henderson's decision to keep Goodell and Elliott's accuser from testifying at his National Football League appeal. While authorities in OH chose not to press charges against Elliott, the National Football League conducted a 13-month investigation and on August 11 announced it had persuasive evidence Elliott committed domestic violence, which led to a six-game suspension.

It's a team effort - the whole team, defensively, put in a good shift. "They were like ice", Tite said. Asked whether teams set up expecting Brazil to dominate play, Neymar added: "Yes, maybe".

The NFLPA still can pursue its lawsuit against the NFL on Elliott's behalfeven though he's accepted the terms of the suspension.

Still, losing Elliott at this point in the season is less than ideal for the Cowboys.

In eight games, he has 783 yards on 193 carries and seven rushing touchdowns.

This signals that Elliott will let the entire process play out and will be slated to make a return in Week 16 on Christmas Eve against the Seattle Seahawks.
