A 75-foot-tall Norway spruce from State College, Pa., arrived in Midtown on Saturday and was hoisted above the ice rink at Rockefeller Plaza.

Once the holidays wrap up and it's taken down in NY, the tree will be milled into lumber for habitat for humanity.

Yesterday in downtown NY on Ropeller Plaza was installed the main Christmas tree of the American metropolis. It was cut down Thursday morning before a horde of camera-ready spectators. For 20 years, the ceremonial lighting of the Christmas tree lights broadcast on live TV.

The tree will be dressed up in more than 50,000 lights ahead of the lighting ceremony that takes place on November 29th.

It will remain on displace through January 7. It will then be donated to Habitat for Humanity to be transformed into lumber for building homes.
