Navi Mumbai: Juhinagar branch of Bank of Baroda in Navi Mumbai was on the target of bank robbers, who performed their activities on the lines of a British Hollywood film, "The Bank Job'".

It was learned that the accused has rented a grocery shop adjacent to the bank.

Thieves dug a 25-foot long underground tunnel to enter the Bank of Baroda's Juinagar Branch in Navi Mumbai and made good with valuables from 30 lockers which were found open.

The bank staff discovered the robbery when they went to work on Monday morning and walked into the locker room to find several vaults open. They then dug an underground tunnel, which passed under two other shops, leading to the area near the lockers of the bank. "The thieves rented out the adjoining shop since May 2017".

The bank has closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, but none inside the locker room. Of 237 lockers, 30 lockers were found open. "Even though the exact valuation of the looted items is yet to be ascertained, it appears that valuables worth Rs 40 lakh have been stolen", an official said. The bank had called all its customers to following the robbery for assessment of the robbery.
