Jacqui Lambie's four-year and oft-controversial run as a Tasmanian Senator has come to an end with an emotional resignation speech to federal parliament.

Last week, Ms Lambie revealed her father was born in Scotland, but said at the time she had no concerns she might be a dual citizen and insisted her affairs were in order.
