Bennett says it's not that simple. Bennett says he got three other opinions who said that he needed to have the shoulder fixed.

Following Sunday's game, Bennett said he initially told his agent to tell no teams to claim him because he planned to have shoulder surgery then retire.

Bennett caught 24 passes for 233 yards in 7 games with Green Bay this season. In a locker room where players typically respond to most questions with a variation of "We're just trying to do what the coaches tell us to do" or "We're just trying to get better every single day", Bennett is a breath of fresh air.

With the chance to return to New England, where Bennett was a big part of the Patriots' Super Bowl champion team a year ago, the veteran tight end said he'd eschew surgery on his shoulder and play. Bennett disputed that the Packers didn't know about his shoulder, posting an Instagram story that detailed his side. "And I told him, and then we had a quick conversation, and he was like, 'Let me think about it, and I will call you back'".

Bennett was ready to throw in the towel on his 2017 season due to a torn rotator cuff, but a change of scenery has returned him to Bill Belichick's lineup. "Right now, I'm just like, (expletive) it", he explained, per Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald. The Patriots proved they could utilize four tight ends and a fullback in their offense Sunday night in the Patriots' 41-16 win over the Denver Broncos.

"I love having Martellus on our team", Brady said postgame.

Meanwhile, as Brady welcomed back Bennett, he connected with tight end Dwayne Allen for a touchdown for the first time as he inches closer to the National Football League record for scoring pass targets.

He noted that his favorite part of the game wasn't his touchdown reception, but the block that helped spring Dion Lewis for a 103-yard touchdown return. With Bennett openly toying with retirement, the move is a relatively low-risk one for the Patriots.
