38 Women Have Accused Hollywood Director James Toback Of Sexual Misconduct

By James Hennessy

Filmmaker James Toback has been accused of sexual harassment by more than 30 women, the great majority of them on the record, according to a bombshell report published by the Los Angeles Times on Sunday.

The LA Times report goes into more detail into some of the allegations, claiming that Toback is a serial predator who approaches women on the street in NY and offers them opportunities in the film industry, before luring them to secluded areas like his apartment, where he sexually harasses or propositions them. Women were often invited to rehearsals for the alleged role; it was at these encounters where some of the women witnessed Toback masturbating in front of them or attempting to coerce them into sex, the newspaper writes.

It's a common thread among many women I know ... after someone mentions they were sexually abused by a creepy writer-director, the response is, "Oh no, you got Tobacked".

He also wrote and directed the Harvey Keitel film Fingers, the loosely autobiographical The Pick-up Artist, which starred Robert Downey Jr. and Molly Ringwald, Two Girls and a Guy, also with Downey Jr. and Heather Graham, Harvard Man, with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the Mike Tyson documentary Tyson.

Before the Los Angeles Times' piece broke, Toback denied the allegations from Kamin to Variety and said, "All I can tell you is I've never heard of this woman, and it's totally defamatory on her part to invent them".

She alleged that as he touched her thighs he said: "If you look into my eyes and pinch my nipples, I'm going to come in my trousers right now". One woman recounted the time when she met Toback at his NY home and he wouldn't let her leave until she grabbed his nipples and looked into his eyes while he masturbated.

Rumors about Toback started surfacing in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein revelations, with actress Selma Blair retweeting on October 12 an article in the Huffington Post titled "James Toback Gets Us, He Truly Gets Us in "The Private Life of a Modern Woman". I got his machine and told him that I couldn't come to his lecture, but if he was serious about me being a star he should give my mom a call.

"Everyone wants to work, so they put up with it", Dannon contended.

"The way he presented it, it was like, 'This is how things are done, '" LaValley said.
