Hero Las Vegas security guard 'vanished' after dodging news media

Police say hotel security guard Jesus Campos was shot by the gunmen before the mass shooting which killed 58 people

Police say hotel security guard Jesus Campos was shot by the gunmen before the mass shooting which killed 58 people

They later said Campos was shot six minutes before the shooting.

David Hickey, the president of the Security Police and Fire Professionals Union which represents Mandalay Bay security guards, said the guard's disappearance was "highly unusual".

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Jesus Campos had scheduled his first media appearances on Thursday, but took off from an unidentified hotel in the afternoon after his media representative briefly left his side.

Mandalay Bay maintenance worker Stephen Schuck described last week on NBC's Today show seeing Campos in the hallway while both were pinned down by gunfire.

Campos was shot during an October 1 confrontation with Paddock during a deadly spree in which the gunman killed 58 people and injured hundreds of others.

"We have had no contact with him...."

Alternative theories about what happened during the Las Vegas shooting are still floating around, and even more so after this new news with Campos.

Campos was pictured for the first time since the massacre on October 10 as he accepted an award from his union.

Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation still can't seem to distinguish Paddock's rationale, in spite of several meetings - incorporating with Campos; Paddock's better half, Marilou Danley, who was in the Philippines at the season of the shooting; and with Paddock's sibling, Eric Paddock, who lives in Florida. He explained he hadn't heard from Campos afterward and told reporters that interviews with the security guard were cancelled. He also said that [alleged gunman Stephen] Paddock had checked into the hotel on September 25, not September 28 as had been previously reported.According to a former security guard for Mandalay Bay, armed guards routinely patrol the hotel's hallways.

Mandalay's ownership, MGM Resorts International, released a statement Tuesday that said Campos "wants to tell his story at a time and place of his choosing".

Lombardo said during a press conference on Monday: 'Mr. "Take cover!' If he yelled a second too late, I would have been shot". Hickey said he didn't know which facility, and he didn't know whether another person was with Campos and the union part at the time.

Campos has been the concentration of extreme enthusiasm after he was hailed as a legend in a situation that had him unwittingly ceasing gunfire into the Route 91 Harvest Festival pack by touching base in the lodging foyer to explore a report of an open entryway on the 32nd story of the Mandalay Bay resort.

"He is a victim in this and we don't discuss victims", a Las Vegas police spokesman told Fox News on Tuesday. But his disappearance certainly seems curious, if not suspicious, and Vegas investigators have to be wondering whether Campos has told them the entire story. When police eventually breached the doorway to Paddock's suite, he was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot.
