Turkish Troops Begin Setting Up Observation Posts in Syria's Idlib

The Turkish military activity in Idlib aims at establishing a "de-escalation zone" in the region, the written statement said.

Earlier, the Turkish General Staff announced about the start of intelligence operation in Idlib within creation of a de-escalation zone in the city.

Turkey on late Thursday sent a convoy of about 30 military vehicles into rebel-held northwest Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing in Idlib, local media reported, citing a witness.

He said it was hard to understand why the present regime at the NPA believed the decision could be defended. But he wanted the opportunity to make fresh representations before the NPA made a decision to recharge him.

The convoy was escorted by fighters from Tahrir al-Sham, an alliance of jihadist groups including the former al Qaeda affiliate previously known as the Nusra Front, Abu Khairo said.

The Turkish army is backing the pro-Ankara Free Syrian Army that will need to oust HTS members in the area to allow Iranian, Russian and Turkish forces implement the de-escalation zone.

"The Turkish Armed Forces continue to carry out their duties in the territory within the engagement rules agreed by the guarantor countries in the Astana negotiations".
