Tesla Is Recalling 11000 Model X SUVs Due to a Seat Issue

Electric carmaker Tesla is recallling 11,000 Model X SUVs globally, warning there's a danger the back seats could slide forward in a crash. The issue at hand only affects Model X vehicles with second-row fold-flat seats with build dates between October 28, 2016, and August 16, 2017.

At issue is a cable in the rear seatback, which the automaker says may not have been tightened correctly at its Fremont, California, assembly plant. The problem, which was discovered in internal testing, involves incorrectly adjusted seat cables.

Tesla announced early this month that it missed its production target for the Model 3 sedan, the first mid-priced electric vehicle for the mass market in its lineup.

Tesla said it can make the adjustment using its mobile service vans so that customers don't have to take the SUV into a service center.

Bad news for Tesla Model X owners: you might have to spend a little time without your vehicle. Vehicles that fell under that recall were only built through October. Until then, Tesla warns against have two adults sitting in the left and center second-row seats.

Tesla said it has not received reports of any issues or accidents relating to the problem. It can be remedied at a Tesla service center or, if the owner wishes, through Tesla's mobile fix service.
