Oculus Open-sources Rift DK2: Schematics, Firmware, and More All Freely Available

Facebook is expected to launch the Oculus Go next year, an exact release date is yet to be announced. The company's upcoming Oculus Go headset costs $199, which is less than all of the Windows Mixed Reality headsets that are launching next week.

Zuckerberg announced the "all-in-one", "accessible" headset today as part of an effort in Facebook and Oculus' goal to put one billion people in VR. Indeed, it's only a little more expensive than something like Samsung's Gear VR, which also requires a recent smartphone to actually serve as the headset's display and processor. He's now revealed that Oculus' wireless Santa Cruz headset will be with developers with in next 12 months. It appears that the mobile headset will be a similar experience to the Gear VR, allowing users to spin around but not move freely.

The Go headset was rumored prior to Oculus Connect, considering Facebook had already announced a Santa Cruz self-contained headset prototype a year ago. Additionally, the headset comes with built-in spatial audio and a good ol' fashioned 3.5mm headphone jack as well. It will be cross-compatible with all Gear VR titles.
