It's still very thin (3.4 millimeters) on one end, with a larger hump on the other.
Even though the screen is bigger, it still has the same 300ppi resolution.
You can read Whispersync titles on any Kindle - but the Oasis is the only Kindle that can store and play audiobooks via Bluetooth speaker or headset. The lower price combined with the improvements Amazon added makes the refreshed Oasis a more sensible purchase.
The screen on the forthcoming Oasis is the largest and brightest of any Kindle to date.
Kindle fans, rejoice. Amazon has listened and is finally bringing a waterproof ereader to market - nearly 10 years after the internet giant debuted the first Kindle device. That's because the new Oasis 2 now has a big battery inside, rather than inside a case.
The new Oasis' design is similar to that of the older model: It has the same sloped frame that tapers from one edge to the other, with the thicker side resembling the binding of a book.
If you already procured a new Kindle previous year, you're in luck, too. The back of the new Oasis is also made of aluminum, unlike the 2016 version, and it's the first and only waterproof Kindle.
It's IPX8-rated, meaning it can survive being held under two metres of fresh water for up to 60 minutes.Читайте также: Ireland Could Meet Familiar Foes In UEFA Nations League
"Kindle" has indeed become synonymous with "e-reader" over the past decade, but that doesn't mean Amazon will enjoy the same kind of Kindle success over the next 10 years.
Another first for the new Oasis?
Audible audiobook support has also, finally, arrived. You can connect it to any Bluetooth audio device and easily switch between the spoken word version of a book and the text. So that it can support Audible of course. With Whispersync for Voice on the new Kindle Oasis, you will be able to listen to an audiobook while in the auto coming home from work, then switch back to the textual version when you get home - everything will by perfectly synchronized on the same Kindle.
Amazon also included a few helpful accessibility features in the new Oasis.
You can now invert the black and white on the display, which will be particularly useful if you're reading in bed at night. That should make it easier to read at night. That's double the base storage of previous Kindles, which Amazon says is to accommodate the storage of audio books. You can also change the font and choose between what Amazon calls "five levels of boldness", and there's a backlight that automatically adjusts to your settings.
I didn't have much time to demo the new Oasis, but it's certainly intriguing.
Does the Kindle Oasis 2 sort this?
It also claims the new Kindle was the "most advanced ever" and would enable users to "read in even more places". It looks to be only a fraction of a second faster than the last model, but it's one step closer to instantaneous E-Ink page turning. A 32GB model with cellular connectivity costs $349.99. Both they and the Oasis itself are up for pre-order today, and will ship on October 31.
