Disney puts off Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale



Director Nathan Greno, who co-helmed Tangled, will hopefully be working on something else shortly. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the House of Mouse has ceased production on enormous, their animated take on the classic Jack and the Beanstalk story.

Despite Disney's best intentions, they have announced that their current animation project, Gigantic, has been moved into inactive development.

Set in Spain during the the Age of Exploration, the story was to center on "Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within clouds and befriends a 60-foot female giant".

The game is out on October 27 for the Nintendo Switch, and will be a holiday must-buy for Switch owners. YouTube commenter Sam Muir6 said it best when he described the video as " Super Mario La La Land".

"It is impossible to know, when we start a project, how the creative process will evolve and, a few times, regardless of the passion that inspires us, or our love of the topic, it simply does not work". With 'Gigantic, ' we've come to that point, and although it's a hard decision, we are ending active development for now.

Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez were also attached to write original tunes for the film, with Disney hoping to rekindle that Frozen magic that brought them so much success. "We focus our energy on other projects, that we will be unveiling soon, and which are now planned for Thanksgiving 2020".

Huge was first announced in at D23 Expo 2015 and was scheduled to be released in 2020.

Disney is no stranger to cancelling animated films. Pixar faced multiple delays on the 2015 film The Good Dinosaur, which was first announced back in 2009. The animated comedy wound up grossing $330 million worldwide, the lowest total for a Pixar title.

Next up for Disney Animation is Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, which is set to hit theaters on November 21st, 2018. Later down the line, the studio will debut Frozen 2 on November 27, 2019.
